Seaside Communities
Most of my childhood vacations were spent on Pawleys Island, SC, and
Amelia Island, FL. I was always with aunts, uncles, first cousins,
second cousins and even fourth
cousins.
And, of course, there were the other vacationers and locals that became
our lifelong friends. Discover these picture books that celebrate that
feeling of community.

The Pink Motel
The Pink Motel
by Carol Ryrie Brink
deserves a category all by itself.
Published in
1959, this magical book was a childhood favorite. It follows
the
adventures of a family that inherits a very unusual and very pink motel
in
Florida. I
was thrilled to find a copy at a local antique mall and snatched it up.
The dustcovers are long gone but that’s OK because the book is
still
wonderful and still … pink.
