I promise it will involve gunpowder, treason and even a hanging! On November 5, 1605, Guy Fawkes was arrested in the cellars under the Houses of Parliament in London with about 36 barrels of gunpowder. He was arrested, tried and hanged for attempting to blow up the British government. Every year, on November 5, towns and villages across the United Kingdom hold Bonfire Night celebrations to commemorate the foiling of The Gunpowder Plot. These celebrations almost always involve fireworks. People also sometimes make effigies, or dummies, of Guy Fawkes to throw into the bonfires.
